Turkish A1, A2 and B1 Word Lists with Grammar Checklists for Each Level

Word lists are only useful if they’re the right words and you learn them with the grammar that makes them work. This page gives you both: 400 high-frequency words sorted into A1, A2 and B1, and a grammar checklist for each level so you can see what you still need to cover.

The lists follow the topics the CEFR sets for each level (personal information, daily routine, shopping, travel, work, opinions). No official public word list is shared by all Turkish exams, so use these as a core to build on. To see where you are now, take the Turkish level test.

How to use them: learn each word inside a short phrase with a suffix, say it aloud, and review it with spaced repetition. You can drill the same words in our flashcards.

Next steps

When every box at a level is ticked and you know most of its words, test yourself with the level test, then follow the next stage of our A1 to B2 self-study roadmap.

Frequently asked questions

How many words do you need for A1 Turkish?

Roughly 500–700 words, of which the 150 in our A1 list are the most essential. Because Turkish builds words with suffixes, knowing a root like ev (house) also lets you understand evde, eve, evden and evim.

Is there an official Turkish vocabulary list for each CEFR level?

There's no single official public list used by all Turkish exams. Course books and institutions each set their own scope. Lists like this one are based on the topics and functions the CEFR describes at each level, so treat them as a core to build on.

What grammar do I need for A2 Turkish?

The definite past (-di), the future (-ecek/-acak), all the main noun cases including the accusative, possessive suffixes and genitive compounds, the imperative, and common postpositions like ile, için and kadar.

What is the best way to learn these word lists?

Put words into spaced-repetition flashcards together with a short phrase that uses a suffix, for example eve gidiyorum (I'm going home) instead of just ev. Review daily and say each phrase aloud.
