B1 Turkish Core Vocabulary: 100 Words for Opinions and Ideas

B1 is the level where you start talking about things you cannot point at: decisions, experiences, the economy, your hopes for the future. This deck groups the abstract nouns (karar, deneyim, sorumluluk), the verbs of opinion and negotiation (tercih etmek, anlaşmak, kabul etmek) and the discourse markers that turn a list of sentences into an argument.

Pay special attention to the connectors at the end of the deck. Words like oysa, üstelik, bu yüzden and neyse ki appear constantly in news, podcasts and conversation, and using two or three of them correctly is one of the quickest ways to sound like an intermediate speaker rather than a beginner.

The interactive player needs JavaScript. You can still study every card in the table below, or enable JavaScript to flip cards, track your progress and download the deck for Anki.

Download the deck for Anki

Prefer to study in Anki or another spaced-repetition app? Download all 100 cards as an Anki import file. Each note has five fields: Turkish, English, Example TR, Example EN and Tags (TurkLogic, the deck name and the CEFR level). The CSV version also includes the grammar notes and opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Quizlet or Memrise.

Free for personal study. Files are created on your device; nothing is uploaded.

How to import into Anki

  1. Download turklogic-b1-core-100-anki.txt with the button on the left.
  2. Open Anki on your computer (2.1.55 or newer) and choose File › Import.
  3. Select the file. Anki reads the header lines automatically: tab separator, plain text, five columns, tags in column 5 and the deck TurkLogic::B1 Core 100.
  4. Pick a note type. Basic (and reversed card) gives you TR → EN and EN → TR cards. Map Turkish to Front and English to Back; to see the examples, add two fields to the note type first and map Example TR and Example EN to them.
  5. Click Import, then sync to AnkiDroid or AnkiMobile to study on your phone.

AnkiDroid can import the same file directly: Deck list › ⋮ › Import.

B1 Core 100 flashcards: FAQ

What makes a word B1 rather than A2?

B1 vocabulary lets you talk about abstract topics and give reasons: opinions, plans, experiences, society and work. Many B1 words are built from roots you already know, for example sorumluluk from sorumlu (responsible) or gelişme from gelişmek (to develop).

Which B1 connectors should I learn first?

Start with bu yüzden (that's why), aslında (actually), ancak (however) and maalesef (unfortunately). They are frequent, easy to place at the start of a sentence and immediately make your Turkish sound more connected.

How do I study the B1 Core 100 flashcards?

Press the card (or Space) to see the answer, then choose Know or Again. Known cards move up through five Leitner boxes and come back after 1, 3, 7 and 21 days; missed cards return to box 1 and reappear a few cards later. Your progress is saved in this browser, and you can switch between TR → EN and EN → TR at any time.

Can I use the B1 Core 100 deck in Anki?

Yes. Use "Download for Anki" to get a tab-separated import file with all 100 cards, then choose File › Import in Anki. The file's header lines set the separator, columns, tags and deck name for you. A CSV version is also available for spreadsheets and other flashcard apps.
