Daily Turkish Word Puzzles

Two short games for Turkish learners. Kelime trains spelling and the six letters English doesn’t have; the Suffix Builder trains the suffix order that makes Turkish tick. Same puzzles for everyone, every day.

Physical keyboard works too: I types ı, İ types i. Use the on-screen keys for ç ğ ı ö ş ü.

How the tiles work

  • K Green with ✓: right letter, right spot.
  • A Amber with ↔: in the word, but in another spot.
  • L Grey, no mark: not in the word (or no more copies of it).

I and İ are different letters, as are O/Ö, U/Ü, S/Ş, C/Ç and G/Ğ. A circumflex is ignored (kâğıt = kağıt).

Suffix Builder

Five words a day, from warm-up to expert. Put the suffixes in the right order.

How to play

Kelime (“word”)

  1. Type any five-letter Turkish word and press Enter.
  2. Each tile turns green ✓ (right spot), amber ↔ (wrong spot) or grey (not in the word).
  3. Use the clues to find the word in six guesses or fewer. Afterwards you’ll see its meaning, an example sentence and audio.

Example: the answer is KALEM and you guess ELELE:

kalem has one E and one L, so only the first copy of each is amber; the extra copies are grey.

Suffix Builder

  1. Read the English meaning and the root you start from.
  2. Tap the suffix chips in order. Some chips are decoys with the wrong vowel harmony or the wrong d/t.
  3. Press Check. You get two tries per word; then the full breakdown appears with links to the grammar rules involved.

Examples of what you’ll build:

  • ev + ler + imiz + den = evlerimizden from our houses
  • kitab + ım + da = kitabımda in my book
  • gel + me + yeceğ + iz = gelmeyeceğiz we will not come

Why these two games?

Most mistakes learners make in Turkish fall into two groups: spelling the letters English doesn’t have (ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş, ü, and the difference between ı and i), and putting suffixes in the wrong order or with the wrong vowel. Kelime makes you think about the first, one letter at a time; the Suffix Builder drills the second with words you already know.

Every Suffix Builder answer is produced by the same rule engine as our verb conjugator and vowel harmony calculator, and is checked automatically before it reaches you. If a round surprises you, the explanation links straight to the rule: vowel harmony, consonant softening, possessive suffixes, the noun cases or the tense in question.

Want to know where you stand overall? Take the 15-minute Turkish level test, or break any long word into its parts with the suffix deconstructor.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does a new Turkish puzzle come out?

Every day at midnight Istanbul time (00:00 TRT, UTC+3). Everyone in the world gets the same Kelime word and the same five Suffix Builder rounds on the same day, so you can compare results with friends.

Which words can I guess in Kelime?

Any five-letter Turkish dictionary word: about 8,000 are accepted. The daily answer is always one of 441 common everyday words (nouns, adjectives, adverbs and a few infinitives such as almak), never a proper noun or a rude word. Suffixed forms like evler are only accepted if they are dictionary entries in their own right.

How do I type ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü?

Use the on-screen keyboard, which has all 29 letters of the Turkish alphabet. On a physical keyboard, capital I is read as dotless ı and İ as dotted i, exactly as in Turkish. A circumflex is ignored, so kâğıt and kağıt are the same guess. Q, W and X are not Turkish letters and are not accepted.

How are repeated letters scored?

Exact matches are marked first. A letter that appears twice in your guess but once in the answer is marked only once: green with a tick if it is in the right spot, otherwise amber with an arrow for the first copy, and grey for the extra copy. Every colour also has a symbol, so the board works without colour vision.

What does the Suffix Builder practice?

The fixed order of Turkish suffixes. Nouns take plural, then possessive, then case (ev-ler-imiz-den, from our houses). Verbs take the stem, then negation, then the tense, then the person ending (gel-me-yeceğ-iz, we will not come). Each round is generated by the same tested grammar engine that powers our conjugator and harmony calculator, and decoy chips test vowel harmony and d/t hardening.

Where are my streak and statistics saved?

Only in your own browser (local storage) on this device. Nothing is sent to our servers and there is no account. Clearing your browser data or switching devices starts your statistics from zero.

Will sharing my result spoil the word for friends?

No. The Share button copies (or shares, on phones) only the puzzle number, your score and a grid of coloured squares, plus the link to this page. No letters are included.
