    Ablative case

Watch out with merak

  • This k does not soften. Unlike kitap → kitabı, merak keeps its k: merakı, meraka (not *merağı). Loanwords and some native words are exceptions to the softening rule, so learn them as you meet them. Rule →
  • Locative with t, not d. After a voiceless consonant the locative and ablative start with t: merakta, meraktan (not *merakda). Rule →
  • Two meanings of merakın. merakın is both "of the curiosity" (genitive) and "your curiosity" (possessive). merakı is likewise both the object form and "his/her curiosity". Rule →
