suç means “fault, crime”. Its last vowel is u, so 2-way suffixes use a (suçlar) and 4-way suffixes use u (suçun). It is a regular noun: suffixes attach directly to suç, as in suçu and suçta.

Suç in example sentences

  • Bu benim suçum değil.

    This isn't my fault.

    Nominative case
  • Kardeşim suçu hemen kediye attı.

My brother immediately blamed the cat.

    Accusative case
  • Kendi suçundan dolayı başkalarını suçlama.

Don't blame others for your own fault.

    Ablative case

Watch out with suç

  • This ç does not soften. Unlike kitap → kitabı, suç keeps its ç: suçu, suça (not *sucu). Most one-syllable nouns behave this way. Rule →
  • Locative with t, not d. After a voiceless consonant the locative and ablative start with t: suçta, suçtan (not *suçda). Rule →
  • Two meanings of suçun. suçun is both "of the fault" (genitive) and "your fault" (possessive). suçu is likewise both the object form and "his/her fault". Rule →
