Example sentences with beklemek

Common mistakes with beklemek

  • Incorrect: Senin için bekliyorum.Seni bekliyorum.

Beklemek takes a direct object in the accusative (-(y)i / -(y)ı / -(y)u / -(y)ü): Seni bekliyorum. = "I'm waiting for you". English "wait for" has no equivalent of "for" here: the person waited for is a direct object. Learn the rule →

  • Incorrect: bekleyorumbekliyorum

Before -yor the final e of bekle- changes to a narrow vowel: bekliyorum. In other tenses it stays: bekledim, bekleyeceğim. Learn the rule →

  • bekler

Vowel stems simply add -r in the aorist: bekler, beklerim. Don't mix up bekler (habit: "he/she waits") with bekliyor (right now: "he/she is waiting"). Learn the rule →
