Common mistakes with susamak

  • Susadım.

"I'm thirsty" is the past tense susadım. Avoid susuyorum: it is the present continuous of both susamak ("I'm getting thirsty") and susmak ("I'm keeping quiet"), so it is easily misunderstood.

  • Incorrect: susayorumsusuyorum

Before -yor the final a of susa- changes to a narrow vowel: susuyorum. In other tenses it stays: susadım, susayacağım. Learn the rule →

  • susar

Vowel stems simply add -r in the aorist: susar, susarım. Don't mix up susar (habit: "he/she gets thirsty") with susuyor (right now: "he/she is getting thirsty"). Learn the rule →
