Watch out with bisiklet

  • This t does not soften. Unlike kitap → kitabı, bisiklet keeps its t: bisikleti, bisiklete (not *bisikledi). Loanwords and some native words are exceptions to the softening rule, so learn them as you meet them. Rule →
  • Locative with t, not d. After a voiceless consonant the locative and ablative start with t: bisiklette, bisikletten (not *bisikletde). Rule →
  • Two meanings of bisikletin. bisikletin is both "of the bicycle" (genitive) and "your bicycle" (possessive). bisikleti is likewise both the object form and "his/her bicycle". Rule →
