Turkish Travel and Directions Flashcards: Transport, Hotels and Getting Around
Asking for directions is easy; understanding the reply is the hard part. This deck trains both. You learn the question forms (… nerede?, … nasıl gidebilirim?) and, just as importantly, the words you will hear back: sağa dön, sola dön, dümdüz git, karşıda, köşede, ikinci sokak.
The rest of the deck covers getting around a Turkish city and checking into a hotel: otobüs, metro, vapur (the Istanbul ferries), dolmuş, bilet, istasyon, the airport words and the questions you need at reception. Notice how often the dative -e/-a appears: you turn to the right (sağa), get on the bus (otobüse) and go to the airport (havalimanına).

Travel & Directions flashcards: FAQ
How do you ask for directions in Turkish?
Start with Affedersiniz (excuse me), then ask … nerede? (Where is …?) or … nasıl gidebilirim? (How can I get to …?). For example: Affedersiniz, Taksim'e nasıl gidebilirim?
What is a dolmuş?
A dolmuş is a shared minibus that runs on a fixed route and leaves when it is full (dolmuş literally means 'filled'). You can get off anywhere on the route by saying İnecek var! (Someone's getting off!).
How do I study the Travel & Directions flashcards?
Press the card (or Space) to see the answer, then choose Know or Again. Known cards move up through five Leitner boxes and come back after 1, 3, 7 and 21 days; missed cards return to box 1 and reappear a few cards later. Your progress is saved in this browser, and you can switch between TR → EN and EN → TR at any time.
