Turkish Colours Flashcards: Kırmızı, Mavi, Yeşil and More
Colour words are among the easiest Turkish vocabulary because they behave like any other adjective: they go before the noun and never change form (kırmızı elma, kırmızı elmalar). This deck covers the everyday palette, including lacivert (navy), which Turks use far more often than English speakers say 'navy', and turkuaz, a word Turkish gave to the world.
You will also meet three older colour words that survive in names and idioms: kara (black) in Karadeniz, the Black Sea; ak (white) in Akdeniz, the Mediterranean; and al (red) in al bayrak, the Turkish flag. Recognising them makes maps, poems and song lyrics much easier to read.

How to import into Anki
- Download
turklogic-colours-anki.txtwith the button on the left. - Open Anki on your computer (2.1.55 or newer) and choose File › Import.
- Select the file. Anki reads the header lines automatically: tab separator, plain text, five columns, tags in column 5 and the deck TurkLogic::Colours.
- Pick a note type. Basic (and reversed card) gives you TR → EN and EN → TR cards. Map Turkish to Front and English to Back; to see the examples, add two fields to the note type first and map Example TR and Example EN to them.
- Click Import, then sync to AnkiDroid or AnkiMobile to study on your phone.
AnkiDroid can import the same file directly: Deck list › ⋮ › Import.

What is the difference between siyah and kara?
Both mean black. Siyah is the everyday word for the colour of clothes, cars and hair. Kara is older and appears in place names (Karadeniz), idioms (kara gün, a dark day) and descriptions with an emotional tone.
How do you say light blue and dark green in Turkish?
Put açık (light, literally 'open') or koyu (dark, literally 'thick') before the colour: açık mavi, koyu yeşil, açık gri, koyu kahverengi.
How do I study the Colours flashcards?
